About the Artist:
Casey Orsini has her Visual Arts Bachelor’s Degree and her Master’s in Art Therapy and Counseling. Casey studied film photography and studio painting in her undergrad to then explore psychology and art in her Master’s. When forging her career path, she wanted to build a bridge between her artistic self and her desire to help others. She has worked with adults with intellectual disabilities and Autism in a studio art space. She has also used art as an intervention to heal and grow in children’s trauma centers.
Casey also experiences Synesthesia; a neurological condition which can be found in those with ASD where one sensory leads to involuntary experiences in a second sensory; Cross-connectivity. Examples vary, but one that is harnessed the most for Casey is “seeing” music as color when heard.
Casey wants to show her audience her visual interpretation of the sensory stimuli of ASD and Synesthesia.
Artist Statement:
I have found that using an art therapy approach to embrace my sensory stimuli and my Synesthesia has helped me open up in a whole new way of painting, going to the canvas without a plan, but my heightened sensory that day or a song. On a day to day, ASD can feel challenging; but when painting, this feels like a beautiful reality in which it’s my superpower.
